With Mother’s Day just around the corner, many of our female readers are looking forward to a day of quality time with their loved ones, good food and perhaps even some well-deserved, heartfelt mother’s day gift.
If you’re a mum, why not give you the perfect mother’s day gift: the gift of good health!
Mums are known for caring for others (we don’t mean any disrespect, Dads!) But today’s hectic schedules (making breakfast, leaving children to school, working full-time, caring for an elderly parent, etc.) leaves little time for moms to take care of themselves. Actually recent surveys asked different mother’s what they wanted as the best mother’s day gift. Most of them replied that they wanted something hand-made by their children. This topped the list at 14.6%, followed closely by “a totally day-off work for me” (13.6%).
Follow these five steps to improve your physical and mental health and decrease the risk of certain diseases:
1) Visit a health professional for regular checkups and preventive exams. For an easy-to-use, interactive graph of testing for women across the United Kingdom and task force of preventive services, visit http://www.womenshealth.gov/nwhw/health-resources/screening-tool/.
2) stay active. Physical activities can prolong your life by:
Reducing the risk of heart disease (the #1 killer of women), stroke, high blood pressure, unhealthy cholesterol levels, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome (a group of risk factors that prevent a variety of chronic diseases, colon cancer, breast cancer, falls, depression, and other diseases),
Reduce the risk of hip fracture, lung cancer, and endometrial cancer
Improve sleep quality and bone density
Reduce the size of your waist and help maintain a healthy weight.
Being physically active doesn’t mean you have to lift weights in the gym. In fact, everyday activities like gardening, pushing a stroller, or walking the dog can offer health benefits.
3) Eating healthier:
Instead of buying your mother flowers, why not get her something edible, particularly something good for her health like vegan vitamins and supplements?
Eating a healthy diet and regular physical activity can go a long way in reducing your risk of heart disease, type two diabetes, and to help manage a healthy weight.
Eat healthy fats that help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease such as olive oil, avocados, and more nuts.
Take note of the importance of vitamin D for healthy bones and quick muscle regeneration. It is the best mother’s day gift you probably can get for her. Get vitamin D3 supplements at body by nature supplements, it’s 100% natural and chemical free.
Diet, healthy food and food supplements are not the same! The goal is not to eat fewer calories, but to eat the right one and make sure you are getting the required micronutrients.
4) Learning to manage stress:
Stress is a part of everyday life. While you can’t totally avoid it, you can certainly learn to handle it.
The three most important forms of stress are routine or everyday stress brought on over work pressures, family and daily responsibilities; stress caused by a sudden negative change such as job loss, divorce or illness; and post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of a major accident, natural disaster or war. All of these can affect your physical and mental health.
Common stress management techniques like yoga, time management, and regular exercise have been shown to help. So, be sure to seek help from a qualified mental health provider if you feel you can’t come, are overwhelmed, have suicidal thoughts or are using drugs or alcohol to deal with.

5) Avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking, not wearing a bike helmet or seat belt, and texting while driving. Enough said; that’s it!
