There is no better place to celebrate this glorious event than in the city of London. London looks to spread the celebration across the city with some incredible parades, parties, and brunch. The Pride Festival runs from 8th June to 6th July resulting in a Pride weekend over the 6th and 7th of July. Here some of the events that will take place all over the city during this excitement-filled weekend:
Portland Place’s Pride in London Parade
This massive parade takes place on 6th July through the beautiful streets of central London in a march to celebrate activism and diversity. The Pride parade will be celebrating 50 years since the evolution of the modern LGBT and rights movement.
John Lewis Roof Festival on Oxford Street
The program for this festival runs through the weekend of 6th and 7th July with several festival activities and live entertainment. Celebrity appearances from Britain’s Got Talent’s Sheila Simmonds who will be hosting a takeover filled with comedy songs and all Pride favourites. Bobbi Brown offering complimentary festival makeovers will just be the beginning of the incredible line up of appearances for this year’s Roof festival. Any proceedings will be collected for The Albert Kennedy Trust which seeks to provide safe homes and better futures for homeless LGBTQ and youth.
Flat Iron Square’s Queer Carnival, Southwark
This will be a massive 13- hour Queer Carnival taking over the Omeara club and Flat Iron Square to join in the celebrations on 6th July. The event is set to honour the Stonewall UK’s 30th anniversary with all the proceedings from the event going to the charity. The event will feature a talent-filled music line-up across the several indoor and outdoor stages.
Pride Block Party at Chinatown
Blue Posts pub in Chinatown will feature two rooms filled with live music and entertainment from the 6th of July. The pub is set to be redesigned with the Pride’s signature rainbow while the famed DJ duo of Aaron and Wayne will be onsite playing the best of dance, house, and remixes throughout the afternoon and all through the night. Mulwray cocktail lounge will be the recipient of a vintage transformation to match the aesthetics of the bar.
Pride Party and Hangover Brunch at the London Bridge
Baluchi, a Pan-Indian dining favourite, will be hosting an evening filled with drag, dining, and freedom. The evening will include acts from icon Amanda Lepore among many others. On 7th July you get to nurse your hangover with the LaLiT London’s Hangover brunch with a special Pride menu ranging from samosa chaat and braised pork belly with honey and chilli.
The Pride week has evolved and become a community to raise awareness of the issues the LGBTQ community face in their campaign for equality. Pride in London is all inclusive consisting of people from every faith, race, disabled or able-bodied and all sexualities and genders. During last year’s Pride in London, we saw the most diverse parades London has ever had in its streets. With more than a million individuals, couples and families taking part in some way the campaign took social media by storm reaching close to half a billion people.
