Why do we choose to join a gym? Good question, as most people wake up one day and say, My body needs to lose a few pounds, or I could do with losing that beer belly.
What ever the reason you decide to join a gym, one thing is for sure you are not alone. The vast majority of people who join have no real idea of what to do once they enter the doors.
Human Habit At The Gym
They look around and watch other people and then copy what they think the other person has just done. Most people have little or no idea about how to train or even that when they finish training that day and stuff there faces full of fizzy drinks that they sort of earned that right to do so.
It’s a difficult question to answer, but I will give my verdict of why I train. Initially, I will be honest it is more about vanity, trying to look better etc.
However, this soon subsides, as you become a more advanced trainee it becomes less and less about how you look but more about various other benefits: in my opinion the biggest one is the ability to switch off, from other stressors that might be going on in your life, it’s hard to focus on much else other than what you are doing in the gym.
Exercise in my opinion is one of the few activities where you do just switch off from everything, everything doesn’t seem as bad after training.
It is so important to get the right advice as soon as you think about joining a gym.
Why Do People Lose Motivation To Continue The Gym
The main reason so many people fail to continue to go each day or each week is they just don’t know what to train or how to train. I have even seen some people get on a bike and peddle so slowly that they can read a paper and never brake sweat.
Sitting in your house is where you read a bloody paper, not the gym. I have even tried speaking with people and you get the “I know what I am doing thanks.” But they don’t know what they’re doing, and they never will.
They go and buy a glossy magazine and hold it in front while they try and copy the exercise. Completely laughable.
To train correctly builds character, training is a habit like anything else. There seems to an illusion that practitioners, pro bodybuilders or some of the other big names in the industry love to train all the time.
I know some of them personally and they don’t, they are just normal people, they too get tired, they too are busy.
Probably busier than you… If you are going to start any new activity you will need help and good advice. And YES you will need to pay for it, just like when you need the advice of any good person such as a solicitor. Ever wondered why they charge so much to give that advice?
Well they studied for years learning their craft just like personal trainers. So popping over and asking a few questions is not going to make you a trainer. Get better at doing things you don’t want to do. This same character can be applied to other areas of your life.
Stop Putting It Off Until Tomorrow
The common excuse is i’m too busy, the reality is someone busier than you is achieving their goals while you watch TV, because you’re just too busy…or if you really are busy, get up earlier, prioritise your time better.
Give up something if you have to. My wife and I wake at 4.45 am each morning. We eat a little protein breakfast then travel to the gym for 6 am.
There we play tennis for two hours and eat again straight after we finish. Good nutrition plays a major part in our daily lives. I like many others am not a keen consumer of fish, so I take a good clean supplement. Body by nature is my chosen source for my supplements. They offer wholefood or food state and the very best fish oils I could find.
So don’t set a date to start, that way it’s to easy to keep putting it off and delaying the day to really start.
Invest in you as a person and get the correct help with training and nutrition. So while it’s easy to come up with excuses, or put it off until January.
If this is you, don’t even start in January, you will give up. If you need the new year to turn, before you invest in yourself, then you clearly are not going to achieve your goals.
Start today, it’s not easy but it gets easier…..
The more you do it, the easier it becomes just like any habit.
You were probably crap at driving when you first started but, after a few mistakes it becomes effortless, even automatic.
