Why is Functional medicine the new way to treat a patient?

Have you ever wondered why one person gets a cold and they are off work and can hardly function, while another person can carry on without any issue? Well the reason is quite simple but not so obvious. Every body is different. I am sure you have heard this said many times before. But why so different that one person who contacts a form of cancer dies, and another has the same treatment and lives? Is it that they caught the cancer at an earlier stage or the fact that some people have a different form of cancer and the body can not only handle the cancer easier, but some how fight the cancer on a whole new level.

Why is it so many people get sick now days?

We tend to group together all the signs and symptoms and call them all by the same name, “Diseases”.With this approach we not only do the patient a disservice but we think that the one pill fits all works, and it doesn’t.

If my car has a broken wheel bearing and it is manufactured by Mercedes, it would be no good taking my car into a Citroen dealer in order to save a few quid. But that’s precisely how our Doctors treat us. It’s far more convenient to group all the same sounding so-called “diseases’’ together and treat them almost the same way. But this has no real bearing on our diet, lifestyle, environment and genetic make up.

In this day and age, we should be living until 120 years of age, but our lifestyle would not allow this and certainly not our planet. We need a completely new approach to medicine. We need to look at “Functional Medicine” a new model of care aimed at every persons ability to live different from each other. Let’s start to address just what is making us sick in the first place then personalise the care so the cure for his or her treatment works better.

Why is it so many people get sick now days? Why are so many people not asking for better treatment than what’s on offer? Because people don’t know that the treatment the Doctors are offering you can be bettered. If you are ill you visit the Doctor and if you are very ill you go to the hospital, it never changes. You are brain washed to do this and never question the fact that there could be and there is a different and better way.

I had a trip on the stairs a number of years ago and went straight to the hospital because the pain just would not go.

I tried dosing up on loads of painkillers and still nothing would give me a rest from the pain. Finally I went to the hospital. I underwent a scan and was offered an operation to reset the disks that had moved. Because I was in so much pain I very nearly said yes.

Lucky I met a friend who said I should go to his Osteopath. I made the call and went. I hobbled into the waiting room and then into the room to meet Robin the Osteopath. He took one look at me and said lower 3 and 4 I think but lets take a look to make sure.

He then asked me to bend as far forward as I could without hurting myself any more, and then to do the same on the left and right side and to lean backwards. He then asked me to lay flat and he worked on me for about 25 minutes massaging the key area and then finally he placed me on my side and cracked me twice.

I felt NO pain at all and walked out almost up right. I went a further 4 times at a total cost of £120.00. I have been to see him a number of times over the ten years I have known Robin, and use him as my Doctor. Because I work with a lot of lifting and sometimes these boxes can be quite heavy, I can make the mistake of hurting my neck or back or arms.
