Modern living, for all its convenience, conspires against us. Industrial farming methods have depleted our soil of nutrients, antibiotics have spawned life-threatening mutant viruses, and pristine living conditions and hand sanitizers have disrupted our symbiotic relationship with beneficial microorganisms. Our bodies respond with weakened immune systems, digestive troubles, autoimmune disorders, skin ailments and more.
You see, your gut, which makes up approximately 80% of your immune system, needs what’s called beneficial microflora (aka bacteria/bugs/probiotics). These healthful bacteria, or probiotics, protect you from the detrimental effects of harmful bugs that are on a search and destroy mission of all the tissues, organs, and cells in your body.
Primitive people got a healthy share of beneficial bacteria—they walked barefoot, ate food coated with nutrient-rich dirt, didn’t take antibiotics or sanitize their surroundings for “germs.” Their guts were in perfect bacterial balance. Us modern Groks, however, wipe out microflora, both good and bad, with antibiotics, and work hard at eliminating our exposure to any and all bacteria, a practice that has disastrous consequences.Your body needs probiotics just like it needs food, water, and oxygen!
One way to fill your gut back up with healthful probiotics is to eat fermented foods, such as sauerkraut, tempeh, or full-fat yogurt, but getting your probiotic supply from diet alone is difficult. That’s why I recommend supplementing with a high-quality probiotic made up of bacteria strains durable enough to withstand the harsh environment of the stomach and remain viable in the lower intestines.
If you’ve been feeding your genes the food and fitness they crave, you’re feeling more robust than ever. A probiotic will help push you beyond your plateaus and fine-tune your health even further.
Grok on!
