After Oliver showed how\u00a0<strong>McDonald\u2019s hamburgers<\/strong>\u00a0are made, the franchise announced it will change its\u00a0<strong>recipe.<\/strong><\/span><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><span style=\"color: #333333;\">According to Oliver,<strong>\u00a0<!--more-->the fatty parts of beef<\/strong>\u00a0are<strong>\u00a0\u201cwashed\u201d in ammonium hydroxide\u00a0<\/strong>and used in the filling of the burger. Before this process, according to the presenter, the food is deem<\/span><span class=\"text_exposed_show\" style=\"color: #333333;\">ed unfit for<strong>\u00a0human consumption.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to the chef and presenter, Jamie Oliver, who has undertaken a\u00a0<strong>war against the fast food industry:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cBasically, we\u2019re taking a product that would be sold in the cheapest way for dogs, and after this process, is being given to human beings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #222222;\"><span class=\"text_exposed_show\" style=\"color: #333333;\"><br \/>\nBesides the low quality of the meat, the ammonium hydroxide is harmful to health. Oliver calls it \u201cthe pink slime process.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWhy would any sensible human being put meat filled with ammonia in the mouths of their children?\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0asked the chef, who wages a war against the fast food industry.<\/p>\n<p>In one of his initiatives, Oliver demonstrates to children how nuggets are made. After selecting the best parts of the chicken, the remains<strong>\u00a0(fat, skin and internal organs)<\/strong>\u00a0are processed for these fried foods.<\/p>\n<p>The company,\u00a0<strong>Arcos Dorados<\/strong>, the franchise manager in Latin America, said such a procedure is not practiced in the region. The same applies to the product in Ireland and the UK, where they use meat from local suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>In the United States,\u00a0<strong>Burger King<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong>\u00a0Taco Bel<\/strong>l had already abandoned the use of ammonia in their products. The food industry uses ammonium hydroxide as an anti-microbial agent in meats, which has allowed McDonald\u2019s to use otherwise \u201cinedible meat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Even more disturbing is that because ammonium hydroxide is considered part of the \u201ccomponent in a production procedure\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0by the\u00a0<strong>USDA<\/strong>, consumers may not know when the\u00a0<strong>chemical\u00a0<\/strong>is in their food.<\/p>\n<p>On the official website of\u00a0<strong>McDonald\u2019s,<\/strong>\u00a0the company claims that their meat is cheap because, while serving many people every day, they are able to buy from their suppliers at a lower price, and offer the best quality products.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the franchise denied that the decision to change the recipe is related to\u00a0<strong>Jamie Oliver\u2019s campaign.\u00a0<\/strong>On the site, McDonald\u2019s has admitted that they have abandoned the beef filler from its burger patties.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hamburger chef Jamie Oliver\u00a0has just won a battle against one of the largest fast food chains in the world.
