Scientists believe that probiotics packed with ‘friendly bacteria’ could reduce premature birth rates as new findings conclude that the bugs in her body seem to affect when she goes into labor.<\/p>\n
As probiotic yoghurts and drinks in supermarkets lack the ‘friendly bacteria’, scientists are predicting that a probiotic tablet packed with friendly bacteria could treat those who are deemed to have the ‘wrong mix of bugs’.<\/p>\n
1 in 13 babies are born prematurely and those that survive face 1 of many health problems. Infants can be born with lung disease, cerebral palsy, blindness or deafness.<\/p>\n
49 women took part in the study where they gave samples during pregnancy and after birth. Of the 49, 15 gave birth early tending to lack bugs from the lactobacillus family.<\/p>\n
Too few friendly bacteria may leave a woman’s womb open to invasive bacteria and toxins. Hormone tablets, a stitch in the cervix and steroids could be given to the woman to prevent premature birth.<\/p>\n
