After they\u2019re dug up, the potatoes are treated yet\u00a0again to prevent them from sprouting. \u201cTry this experiment: Buy a conventional potato\u00a0in a store, and try to get it to sprout. It won\u2019t,\u201d says Moyer, who is also farm director\u00a0of the Rodale Institute (also owned by Rodale Inc., the publisher of Prevention). \u201cI\u2019ve\u00a0talked with potato growers who say point-blank they would never eat the potatoes\u00a0they sell.
